My name is Jeremy and I love to travel. This blog is started per my assessment for my University of Melbourne subject “UNIB20018_2019_SM2: Going Places, Travelling Smarter”. The blogposts here will generally be answering questions about travelling and my country of specialisation. But that doesn’t mean that anyone is stopping me from developing this blog according to my own liking!

I am choosing Uzbekistan as my country of specialisation. Uzbekistan is a country that is often ignored on the world stage, and have not been exposed to many of the trappings of globalisation. But many people forget that throughout most of History Uzbekistan and the Central Asian region was once a bustling region of culture and commerce. As a history buff, Uzbekistan has so much to offer us in its culture, religion, and historical relics.

Like my classmates, I took this subject because of I want to know how to get more out of travelling. And like everyone else in the whole wide world, I like to travel. Needless to say, we know that travelling gives us countless ways to interact with the wider world around us.

With that in mind, when I travel I like to look out for the new challenges that it brings in a new and unfamiliar environment. I see travelling as a way of improving my depth as a person. In foreign surroundings and zero expectations, I am driven to rely on my core attributes to interact with others. Through these experiences, I can use my insights to make better decisions for myself in the future.

That is the “Why” part of how I travel. During my days in the army, I had learnt to love the challenge and embrace an environment wholeheartedly. In application, I shun tourist attractions, am attracted to the daily lives of locals, and like to take long journeys out into local villages. Very much like most backpackers nowadays, I love to take risks and explore a country on my own terms.
